Winter Up-date, No Fishing Lately, but Thinking About It.

Lately, I have not been able to get out fishing for lake trout, with very little ice and the boats put away. The steel head and coho salmon runs are long over and the inland lake fishing for bass, walleye and pike are between seasons… at least until we can get some ice. Also, with Christmas shopping and events, my time has been occupied.

Thoughts have been on planning for next summers’ fishing on Lake Superior and even before that, a sport and recreation show in Minneapolis in March where I plan to have many pictures and videos of trolling and this past year’s charters.

I put together some photos of scenery and lighthouses and some of my favorite moments and past-times… making lures.

The bass picture represents a couple hour stint in Lac La Belle when I caught a bunch of bass when I couldn’t find any partners to go out with. They were hitting fast and furious on tube baits on a weighted hook.

The official looking boat with 4 outboards hanging off the back was the U.S. Boarder Patrol (U.S. Dept. Of Interior folks) who boarded out boat and interrupted an otherwise nice afternoon trolling for trout and salmon. It was enough to raise the blood pressure a few points, but I managed to get them off without any trouble. Their boat is equipped with a total of 1200 hp.

Calvin is holding his biggest fish to date… a 14 lb lake trout taken in one of my best spots in Bete Grise.

I am also including a few scenery pictures from our beautiful Keweenaw Peninsula, including one of Stannard Rock.

Stannard Rock Light, 35 miles off shore and Awesome fishing!
