Boat Show and Winter Scooting on By

Last weekend (gosh, that was actually over a week ago now) we spent time with friends at the Chicago Boat show talking about fishing charters and lighthouses. It was a great way to spend a couple days, even though I’m not really in the market for a boat, it’ always fun to look at them. Realistically, even if I was in the market, there are so many good, used boats on the market that I don’t think it’s wise to buy new… unless a really big windfall of money comes my way. Also, we were able to learn what products are out there for boat decks, repairs and new electronics, since I’m outfitting another boat.

Last week, I did a short presentation at the local sportsman’s club, on the life of a charter boat captain. It was fun to relate some of the memorable stories that we encounter on the water with the variety of clients, i.e. big fish, unusual fish, sea sickness, un-usual characters, rough water, thunderstorms on the water etc…
I’m looking forward to this spring and summer, but meanwhile keeping busy with rentals, snow removal and trawler boat restoration among other things. Some people say the winters are long here, but go me, they really seem to go by fast. Just think, February is just around the corner, then the spring thaw and before we know it, we’ll be on the open water again!

There’s still one place open (for one person) on our June 29th trip to Superior Shoals (see my last blog) and availability for summer charters, both locally and Stannard Rock, so get your day scheduled before my schedule is full. By the way, if you’d like to stay at our place on Lac la Belle, get your reservations in early. Here’s some info on Keystone Cottage, but it’s best if you contact me directly for the best prices.
