Self Decorated Lures

Most of you know that I make a lot of my own fishing lures for trolling the Lake Superior waters for lake trout, salmon and steel head as I have published a blog on tying a spin and glow used to fish for lake trout and salmon behind a herring dodger. See this post for details or this VIDEO

I also have started a lure business called Finn Action Lures, which I use a lot of on my charters. Last week I made some lures that have been working real well for lake trout… it’s a larger (#6 size spoon) one that has good action to it, especially when trolled slow… about 1.5 to 1.8 mph. I put green prism tape and glow on the con-cave side (which generally is seen fromĀ  above) and a greenish glow tape on the con-vex side (which generally is seen from below).

Lake trout will often go downward to feed, so the light reflected from the prism, or the glow put off by the glow tape will get their attention from below them. If they happen to be below the spoon, then the glow tape on the con-vex side gets their attention. If the spoon is off to their side, either side (or both) gets them to follow and strike since the spoon wags and rotates about 180 degrees, thus shows both the convex and concave sides alternately.

Convex side with reflective tapes. One has green prism too.

Concave side with green prism and glow tape. One has it angled.

Here are some picts… notice the green one with an eye… it’s put in just for size reference since it’s a #5 (the size of most of my FinnAction lures ).

Also, they are hammered brass and nickle to give more reflection and a scale look to them.
