Since deciding on a name for the lure line that I am making, my kids and I have been coming up with designs and painting prototypes. As many of you know, the name is Finn Action Lures. We’re still working on names for individual designs, so I don’t want to elaborate on that at this point.
In the basement, I took out a window and installed a fan for exhaust in order to create a spray booth for painting. I then constructed a frame-work to hold a 1/2 inch wire screen to support the lures. Each lure is hung on a block on the wire screen with a finishing nail. The painting blocks can be moved around if needed to avoid over spray when changing colors.
Wow, there are a lot of steps to making a good lure:
Shape it, slightly rough it with steel wool to prep for primer, hang it on the block with a spot of glue to hold in place wile spraying, clean with denatured alcohol, spray on primer, let dry, spray 2 coats of the base paint, spray 2nd color, spray third color if design calls for it. Let dry thoroughly, apply attractor tape and trim off excess, apply self adhesive eye, apply clear finishing coat for durability and waterproofing. Install split rings with hooks and finally package them with the information insert, at which point they are ready for sale.

By the way, at this point if anyone has a suggestion for color schemes that they would like to see I could easily incorporate them now. I’m just using some of my own preferred colors that have worked well on my boat plus some that I’ve seen in the stores.
