Boy, I can’t wait for the Stannard Rock charter fishing season to ramp up once again! We’ll splash the boat in around May 1st and be ready for any hardy Lake Trout fishermen (or women) who want to go after the big trout of Lake Superior.
I’ve got several trips on the schedule book, including a couple to the Canadian waters of Superior Shoals. Last summer was especially memorable, since we not only fished at the “Rock,” but even tied up to the cribbing and took a full tour all the way to the top. See my blog about it here: http://sandpointcharters.com/my-routine-lighthouses-stannard-rock-gull-rock-and-manitou/. We also toured the Gull Rock lighthouse and Manitou Island Light.
Thoughts of motoring out there again and again bring on excited feelings of anticipation. It never gets old hat, I think because there are always new waters to explore and probe with sonar and fishing jigs; and if the new spots don’t produce, there are always some go-to places that always produce fish. Early in the season, right after ice-out, the fish are still deep and as the water warms to near 50 degrees they move up in the shallows. When the shallows rise above 50 degrees, the fish tend to move deeper into the preferred 48 degrees or so.
Want to be a part of it? Let’s start planning now and Go Fishin’ on the “Fishin’ Mission!”
