Recent fishing for lake trout, salmon and steelhead in Lake Superior

Last Saturday, we had a good time fishing on Lake Superior with 6 happy customers… a mom and dad with their 2 treenage kids and the kids grandma and grandpa… 3 generations and all the males named John! I guess that makes it easy to remember names, huh? One would thing so, but I still can’t remember the grandma’s name, who was a little sick from the slight chop. Everyone else had fun catching and loosing fish. They managed to land 3 of the 5 or 6 that we hooked and I was surprised by the 3 species of fish caught. One king salmon right off the bat, one steelhead later on and one nice 8 lb laker to round it off right at the end of the outing. As I was cleaning the first 2 fish, the laker hit one of the lines dragging a large green paddle with a fly and John successfully landed it… the largest fish he EVER caught! I’m sure they are having some tasty meals of fish for a little while. Thanks for coming, John, John, John, Mary, Jenny and grandma and be sure to tell your friends about Sand Point Charters!

This morning, it was really foggy on Lac La Belle, but with the help of radar, we made it out the the “Big Lake” where 4 of my sons and I landed 7 fish… a mix of Coho, Steelhead and lake trout again. I’m ecstatic about the mix of species on the last 3 outings… where we got 3 different species, 3 times in a row. Every time, we caught lakers and coho, and swapped on the kings and steelhead. Nothing real huge, but all good size, nice “eating” fish. We lost one fish to a faulty Finn Spoon when the hooks got pulled off by the fish… never, in all of my fishing, have I had that happen before! After feeling a nice strike, my #3 son, Gordon, reeled in the lure with no hooks left. I’ll have to check all of my Finns for defective links, I guess.
If anyone wants some fish, even if you can’t get out on the lake, let me know and I will see if I can get some to you.
