Fishing for lake trout, small mouth bass, pike, rock bass and…

Fished in Lake Superior with the boys on Monday in order to try new places. Did not find any new ones, so we fished for a short time on one of my “spots” and caught 4 lake trout. Two of them came in together as a double header, one on a deep sea (meat pole rig) and the other on a downrigger, using the same green spoon on one set-up and dodger/spin and glow on the other.

Today, I took out an eye nurse, (and tri-athlete) Lisa and her 2 kids on Lac La Belle for a couple hours and Lake Superior for a while. They wanted a little variety, or should I say basketball star Seth wanted to try both. His little sister, skier Paige, enjoyed her puzzles more than fishing and caught up on her sleep during a slow period on the high seas. (Actually it was pretty flat out there.)

All together, we caught 8 or 9 (or 10??) fish. 2 lakers, 4 smallmouth bass, 1 pike and 2 rock bass… or did I miss one? One was a really nice small mouth bass of 5.5 pounds!

We returned all but the 2 lake trout to grown a little bigger for the next outing.
Going out again tomorrow, most likely on Lac La Belle with a 10 year old and his dad tomorrow. He says he wants to get a big muskie, but I told him we don’t have any here, so he said ANY big fish would be fun since his largest so far was a 7 incher. It won’t be hard to beat that!
