Trolling again in Bete Grise for Trout and Salmon

We’ve had a few windy days and a few that I had other obligations, but here is a what we’ve done lately on my Harbercraft.

Two Chicagoan couples spent a calm day on Lake Superior as we trolled for Coho for a short time before heading out to special spots for Lake Trout. The morning started out foggy and cool, so we fished near shore at Bear Bluff until the fog lifted and we were able to go a few miles out to find the lakers.

We lost a few on a meat pole when trying to hand off the pole and either pulling too hard or giving slack to the fish, but landed 7 trout, mostly on the “riggers.” A fun time was had by all, except Kristen, who was apparently pretty motion sickness prone… most people don’t feel the motion effects of a calm day like we had.

On Sunday, Graphic Artist (and now North Dakota oil field “Tank Man” Martin and his lovely  baby and wife Ina were coming over for supper, so I had to go out to catch our supper. My boys were too tired to wake up early, even though they said they’d come, so I went out myself and caught my limit of Coho Salmon and Lake Trout… + one laker that I released, so as not to exceed my limit. Wish I had others along so we could have fished longer and brought more home… lots of mouths to feed and I’d like to smoke some more trout.
