Jim’s gang after the first day of fishing.

Brian – most appreciation from our entire family of fishers for the fine service and great experience. Max’s 8 pounder was exciting, but so was every smaller fish!  You are a quality guy. Jack ain’t bad, either! Best regards to you and family

fish caught with sand point chartersThank you! We loved our trip – more importantly, the groom loved the trip!

Back in the heat of Texas now, though :(  Missing that cool breeze off the top of Lake Superior.

lake trout caught with captain brian of sand point charters

Bob’s son with a nice Lake Trout. He later caught a small mouth bass in Lac La Belle.

Thanks so much for your time on Friday with my family giving them a great fishing experience.  In my job role I work very closely with our safety department so I was very impressed with your safety orientation and explanation of all the safety features on the boat.

10 fish caught at Stannard Rock, lake superior

Tim and Sharon with their limit of 10 fish for the day from Stannard Rock

Hi Brian! We had such a great time fishing last summer! Tim and I are looking ahead at our schedule and hoping to be able to book another trip with you! Sharon and I had one of the best times we have had for awhile. I shipped 30lbs of lake trout home and though they were frozen everyone had enjoyed some fantastic lake Superior lake trout. We have recommended your service to anyone who has been interested.

Pat and Rob with their catch

Just wanted to let you know I drove back a day early to use my day off to smoke the fish. I used a pickling spice brine overnight, let dry, and smoked at 180 deg. for 7 hours. An old captain in Grand Haven suggested a light brush of maple syrup just before done. The fish was fantastic! I can’t wait to share at work.

fishing picture of dan langford on the boat with sand point chartersWow!  What a way to celebrate my birthday! Couldn’t ask for better weather or a better fishing experience out at Stannard Rock. Not only did I catch the fish of a lifetime with that thirty-pound Laker, but diving off the boat at the lighthouse was the icing on the cake. Your pleasant personality, knowledge of the sport and the surrounding area, and many fish stories all helped to make the trip enjoyable – oh and I don’t want to forget the delicious smoked Lake Trout snack.

“Thanks Brian – for a great day of late September lake trout fishing.  If you ordered the weather it could not have been better. Sunny skies and calm winds made for some comfortable time on the water.  The Fishin’ Mission is a great boat to get out on Superior in and the lake trout were biting pretty good with several over 6 pounds.  Mike was delighted with the catch – for him a first!

If you want an enjoyable fishing trip with a great guy, give Sand Point Charters a call and schedule some time with Captain Brian!  Thanks again from both of us!”

“Get the net!!” (Who needs a net??)

We’re seeing some Coho Salmon among the Lake Trout and Small Mouth Bass lately, although with the low pressure we saw on Saturday, fishing was a little slow with Dr. Mike. That day we caught a couple Coho, but couldn’t catch a trout to save my life! (well, maybe we could have given more time). […]

Self Decorated Lures

Most of you know that I make a lot of my own fishing lures for trolling the Lake Superior waters for lake trout, salmon and steel head as I have published a blog on tying a spin and glow used to fish for lake trout and salmon behind a herring dodger. See this post for […]

Fishing and cruising Lake Superior in the Keweenaw

It’s been quite a while since I wrote on this fishing blog because I have been out on the water so much. That’s what I’d rather be doing anyway… (typing on this contraption isn’t my most favorite past-time). Charters have been so busy that I haven’t even had time to go pleasure fishing on an […]

Lac La Belle and Lake Superior Fishing Up-date

Last Saturday I participated in a the Longest Day tournament out of Lac La Belle, Copper Harbor, Eagle harbor and Lake Medora. I tried for Walleye for the first hour in the “Belle” with no luck, then out to deep water in Lake Superior trolling for Lake Trout in 150 to 220 feet of water […]

Lake Superior Trolling, Lac La Belle Fishing for Bass, Pike and Walleye

Memorial weekend was spent at Bond Falls with my wife, kids and a nephew. The bass fishing there was about as good as it gets […]

Lac La Belle for Bass & Lake Superioer Fishing

This season started off slow with the late melt, in fact I have yet to launch my Fishin’ Mission… it’s all ready after spending the whole day there yesterday cleaning and making some minor repairs. About a week ago Ken and I fished at South Entry, then neighbor Kurt and I went again. I have […]

Another New Fishing Device – Stern Planer

The TX-007 Stern Planer, made by Church Tackle is one of the latest additions to my fishing arsenal. See my video here: Brian’s Video of the Stern Planer on YouTube The reason I bought them is to enable me to fish a specific depth from the surface down to about 20 feet – far behind […]

Torpedo Diver Weights for Trolling

I’m always striving to increase our take of Lake Trout, Steel Head and Coho salmon. (and Small Mouth Bass and Pike too) At the fishing show in Grand Rapids over the weekend, I spent 2 days wandering the floor and attending seminars and workshops to pick up new gear and fishing tips. I did a […]

Fishing Show (again) and Why YOU should GO!

What can you learn at the Ultimate Sport Show in Grand Rapids this coming weekend? You might ask, what if I just like to fish for walleye? Or small mouth bass? Or lake trout? Or salmon? Or what if I just like to fly-fish? You can learn quite a lot, actually… even the most seasoned […]

FRESHLY Cooked Fish

Have you ever caught lake trout or salmon on a charter and took the fish home, or back to your hotel and wished you had a way to cook and eat it when it’s still fresh? After all, that’s the best time to consume any fish. Or have you tried to cook your small-mouth bass […]
