Yesterday, Calvin and I bobbed for a short time on Bete Grise for lake trout and got one laker. He didn’t want to stay out long, and I promised only a short time and had to stick with my promise. We landed one fish and saw 2 ships leaving the bay that were seeking protection from some thunderstorms.
I learned a couple lessons the hard way on this trip and broke the mount on my electric motor – I had Calvin pull up the electric motor for me after using it and I forgot to tell him to make sure it was secure (lesson 1). AND recently I had removed the safety latch and got lazy about replacing it (lesson 2). If I had replaced it, Calvin would have latched it. When I got up on plane, it popped loose and by the time I reacted and pulled the throttle back, the motor was just hanging by its wires. Oh well, at least I didn’t loose the entire motor and I was able to fix it in just a few hours last night. I’m back in business and ready to troll or jig for lake trout, coho, kings, steel head and splake.
The day before yesterday, Calvin and I took the 4 wheeler with kayaks to Paddy Pond to do some fishing for perch and some exploring in our beautiful Keweenaw. (or as some call it – Copper Country)
What a life. This fishing is hard on a guy, you know… the hard part is today when it’s too windy to get on Lake Superior and I’m sitting here wishing I was fishing!
