Evening fishing deep for Lake Trout straight south of Copper Harbor

Sunday evening we left the dock at 4:15 pm and went straight out to deep water to troll for lakers, since we had tried close to the irons in the morning with no success with Wally and Terry. The coho just don’t seem to be here yet.
For the evening, I had recovery nurse Doreen, property appraiser Mike and mature son Dax onboard looking for our lucky spot.
We started out by bumping bottom a couple of times with false releases as I tried to get used to a new batch of rubber band releases since I ran out of my regular supply. Soon we were taking in a fish on a somewhat regular basis as Dax and his mom and dad took turns at the rods. Again the nurse mother, with her attention and focus on the rods, proved to be a good fisherwoman, while us guys missed the slight rod bumps.
Mike landed the largest laker, at 5 lbs.

Total catch was 12 with one small one released. The family gave us some to pass on to Terry so he could smoke some the next day. Will be fishing with the same party on Wednesday, so I will report on that trip later in the week.

Spent the day today at Copper Harbor and may go back for fireworks tonight.
Guys going to Isle Royale this weekend. Can’t go because of charter commitments, but I am not complaining.
