Up-date on some recent fishing trips

Thursday, this week was too windy to fish, so spent the day in town and cut a couple cedars for my dock among other things.

Friday I had planned to fish out of Eagle Harbor, but as I launched my boat, I noticed the wind pickign up out of the WSW. I decided to change plans, so we fished in Bete Grise once again near Point Isabelle and a couple other favorite spots. I had a few locals on board, graphic artist Scott (Herbie), his father-in-law biker Mike and teacher (and swimmer)Doug. Caught a total of 8 fish, 6 were lakers, one steelhead and one coho salmon. Coho came in from a downrigger set at 40 feet deep. The steelhead was about the same depth on a dypsy diver and the lake trout were mostly on the bottom.

Lost a couple coho on planer boards when we didn’t get to the rods soon enough and failed to get a good hook-set. Another nice fish was lost when my leader line broke soon after a hard hit… must have been frayed.

Saturday evening on the Big Lake was a pleasure/exploring trip with 2 of my boys and we caught 2 nice steelhead and 4 lake trout. One laker was 4 lbs. and the steelys were 4 and 5 lbs. Yesterday I took the boys out for Lac La Belle fishing, but no larger fish worthy of pictures, but they all had fun.

This morning, was a sightseeing trip to Manitou Island, where we saw a freighter go through the pass between Keweenaw point and Manitou Island. Had a hard time NOT FISHING and yearned to go back after dropping off my customers, but had to come to town to take care of business.
